It's too hot for mosquitos. They're still out there but they are less active when temperatures go above 95 and we have been well above that in North Texas for a while. But because mosquitos are a public health nuisance, you still need to protect yourself.
Mosquitos carry West Niles virus and Duncanville is the latest Dallas County community to confirm West Nile-infected mosquitos.
The best way to protect yourself is to remember the 4 D's.
1. Use insect repellent that contains DEET
2. Dress in long, light loose clothing when outside
3. Drain any standing water on your property
4. Limit your time outside at dawn and dusk when mosquitos, even hot ones, are more active.
