The company redeveloping the former site of Valley View Mall in Dallas has announced its plans for new construction on the site. The final remains of the mall structure have now been removed from the property in north Dallas.

"The mall is down. The debris is down, and we can now turn the new chapter of this area into Dallas Midtown and start our first project," said Scott Beck, CEO of Beck Ventures. The company bought the property several years ago and has been working to demolish the former mall to make way for redevelopment.

Officials at Dallas City Hall had previously been critical of the pace of demolition at the site. There was a fire at the location earlier this year.

"The final demolition and clearing of the Valley View site is an important step in the fulfillment of the vision set forth over ten years ago by our city leaders, chambers of commerce, the development community and neighbors," Dallas City Council Member Jaynie Schultz said.

"Our first project is a mixed-use building on Preston Road at Dilbeck," said Beck, "It will contain approximately 275 units of upscale apartments...and 26,000 square feet of retail and restaurants."

Crews have been doing work on the utility infrastructure in the area. Beck predicts that construction on the new six-story tower will begin at the end of the year.

"My best guess is we're talking December, January or February when everything will actually start," he said. "That's really based on the permitting process. The City of Dallas is having some issues because of the hack that just happened, so there's a little bit of a backlog."

Some departments at the City of Dallas have been impacted by a recent ransomware attack.
