One of the great economic benefits we are finding out from the World Cup is how local shops in Dallas Fort Worth are seeing an increase in traffic.
Ann-Marie Gustafsson is Operations Director for The Wooden Spoon in Plano which sells Scandinavian food and gifts. She says they have a lot of people coming in.
Even the Swedish World Cup team wanted food from their shop which was convenient for everyone considering Sweden's base camp is in Frisco.
"They want the sausage, candy, cheese, caviar, herring, and a lot, a lot of coffee," Gustafsson said.
Gustafsson says they are also seeing a lot of new local customers who have been aware of their location for years.
"Probably 20, 30 people a day since this soccer World Cup started," she said. "We have people coming in, 'Oh, we've passed your store for 20 years and never been in,' and they come in and they have been willing to try everything."
The Wooden Spoon has been in North Texas for nearly 40 years originally opening in McKinney. They opened their Frisco location along K Avenue in 1992 and have been in operation there ever since.
