Doctors say early detection is still the key when it comes to fighting breast cancer but many women have put off the screening because of the pandemic.
Dr. Kory Jones a breast cancer surgeon with USMD in Texas. Dr. Jones says, "There are breast cancers out there that are very aggressive. Putting off a mammogram for three months or six months can cause us to miss some of these more aggressive cancers."
She says women starting at the age of 40 should be getting an annual breast cancer screening with mammograms. But, if there's a family history of breast cancer, a mammogram may be needed earlier.Research indicates about one in eight women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.
