Texas DPS officials have acknowledged being duped by an organized crime group of Chinese gangsters into disclosing thousands of Asian Americans' drivers license information.

On Monday, DPS Director Steve McCraw told a Texas House committee that the criminals got information about Texans with Asian names from the so-called dark web and then used that information to bypass DPS security and to get replacement drivers licenses.

DPS Lieutenant Colonel Jeoff Williams says the agency does not yet know the full scope of the breach. He told the same committee they have identified approximately 3,000 names. "I don't have the exact number today, and the reason I don't have the exact number today is, as we continue the investigation, we're identifying people."
