A driver is recovering after getting hurt in a McKinney crash that heavily damaged an SUV and the utility pole it smashed into yesterday.
Police closed down the intersection of Alma Road and Collin McKinney Parkway when the SUV veered out of control and crashed into a pole supporting the traffic signals.
The speed of the SUV is unknown but the front of the SUV was absolutely crushed, causing the air bags to deploy.
The driver was hurt bad enough to need emergency treatment but McKinney police reported the injuries to be non-life-threatening.
The impact left the pole unsteady enough that commanders agreed to leave the SUV in place for a large crane to be called in to stabilize the pole until the vehicle was removed.
The intersection was partially blocked through early evening.
