A 75-year-old serial rapist in Dallas County identified more than 30 years after his crimes will spend the rest of his life in prison.

David Thomas Hawkins pleaded guilty in a Dallas County Courtroom to one count of aggravated sexual assaults and three counts of aggravated rape in a series of attacks between 1980 and 1985.

The judge sentenced him to four life sentences.

Hawkins was arrested in August of last year after he was identified through DNA analysis, the same type of testing used to identify the Golden State Killer.

After his arrest, Hawkins confessed to at least 30 rapes.

In court, one survivor from a 1985 assault asked the judge to let Hawkins remove his face mask (due to COVID reasons), saying she had never seen his face as he had on a ski mask the night of the assault.

DNA evidence directly linked Hawkins to three aggravated sexual assaults in Dallas and two in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Hawkins was arrested on a rape charge in Arkansas in 1973. After he pleaded no contest, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison, with nine years of the sentence suspended. He was paroled in 1977 and has lived in the Fort Worth area since then.
