An old scam is rearing its ugly head in Tarrant County once again.

The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office says someone claiming to be from its office is calling older men, spoofing its number, telling them that they committed a crime by going to massage or sex-related websites.

The caller then demands immediate payment in order to avoid prosecution.

The scammer demands that the fine be paid in increments to a cryptocurrency machine or kiosk of the caller's choice.

The DA's office says no public official will ever call anyone to demand an immediate payment, and that scammers want people to pay by cryptocurrency since there's almost no way for them to get their money back.

When the alert was first issued back in February, seniors had been bilked out of around $300,000.
