EULESS (1080 KRLD)- The City of Euless will have to pay death benefits to the widow of a police officer who was shot to death while on the job in 2016.

Officer David Hofer was killed while making an arrest. At the time he was engaged, but not married, to the mother of their children. The City of Euless fought the payment of death benefits. But a judge ruled under Texas law the couple could be considered married.

Friday, the Supreme Court refused to overturn the judge's decision...meaning the city will have to pay.
