With day after day of triple-digit heat and now North Texas being under an Excessive Heat Warning DART officials are reducing the speed of Texas Railway Express trains, hoping to prevent the tracks from buckling.

DART says riders can expect 10-15 minute delays through Wednesday, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Under the restrictions, TEXrail and TRE trains will operate at reduced speeds of no more than 40 miles an hour from 2-7 p.m.

The trains have to go slower because intense heat can cause rails to expand, and as steel expands there is an increased risk of the rails warping.
