If you’re planning to drive anywhere near Arlington’s Entertainment District tonight - consider this your official warning. Two massive events are happening side by side: the Texas Rangers host the Royals at Globe Life Field, while tens of thousands of soccer fans pack AT&T Stadium for a CONCACAF Gold Cup doubleheader.
Arlington Police say the perfect storm of baseball and international fútbol will create “extreme congestion” around both stadiums, particularly between 5:00 and 11:00 p.m. To help keep things moving, the city has activated its Traffic Management Center to control signal timing, and reversible lanes will be in use on key routes like Collins Street and Randol Mill Road.
Alternate routes:
Drivers not attending either event are strongly encouraged to avoid the I-30 and SH-360 corridors near the stadiums. Use Division Street, Fielder Road, or Green Oaks Boulevard as east-west alternatives, and consider routes farther north like Lamar Boulevard.
Public transit:
Parking will be tight, so fans heading to either event are encouraged to carpool or use Arlington’s Via Rideshare service. Designated drop-off and pickup points are in place at Lot 15 (AT&T Stadium) and near Texas Live! for Globe Life Field.
For listeners and locals:
If you live or work in Arlington, it might be smart to adjust your evening plans. Have dinner a little later, work remotely if you can, or just delay the drive home. And if you must travel through the area? Bring patience—and maybe a podcast. And, of course, tune to NewsRadio 1080 KRLD for on-time traffic reports.
Officials say crowd sizes could exceed 100,000 total, and if weather delays either event, traffic could extend deep into the night.
