A group from the Dallas Haitians United, a non-profit organization that serves the Haitian community in DFW, has been forced to cancel their plans to travel to Haiti because of a new travel ban.

The FAA is grounding all flights to Haiti because of gunfire aimed at commercial airliners. A travel ban was put into place for safety but affected the Dallas Haitians United. The non-profit organization planned on leaving for Port-au-Prince a week from tomorrow to do charity work.

Group president Maggie Augustin hopes the ban doesn't extend past the 30-days.

"I hope this ban is only for just this month and not proceeding to next month and things like that because a lot of people like to go back home for the holidays and things like that," Augustin said.

Augustin said there are several dozen families around DFW that have families in Haiti or who travel between the two countries. She also said she doesn't know why the gangs are opening fire on civilian airliners.
