Fans pack Amon Carter Stadium for Armed Forces Bowl

Fort Worth

FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD)- Fort Worth hosted the 2024 Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl Friday with Oklahoma Sooners facing the Navy Midshipmen.

Events started with a flyover of F-35 Lightnings from the 301st Fighter Wing.

"That's really cool to see the young guys and women stepping up, joining and protecting our country," a Navy veteran attending the game with his wife and son said.

While saying he supports service members off the field, an Oklahoma fan said he expected to see more Crimson than Navy blue at Amon Carter Stadium. He says he would come when TCU played Oklahoma when the Sooners played in the Big 12.

"Even then, the crowd would be 50-50 even though it's a home game for TCU, so it's nice to see the representation," he said.

Last year, Oklahoma played in the Alamo Bowl, losing 38-24 to Arizona. The U.S. Naval Academy last appeared in a bowl game in 2019, beating Kansas State 20-17 in the Liberty Bowl.

The Navy won 21-20.
