The Lewisville Board of Trustees could vote tonight to close five elementary schools and rezone students.
Those elementary schools are feeder schools into five Lewisville high schools. After evaluating some 20 schools, a group of community members, district leaders and school staff came up with the school closing suggestions.
The LISD Superintendent says enrollment peaked in the 2015 school year at 53,000 students, and they expect it to stabilize at about 45,000 in the next 10 years. A drop in enrollment means a drop in school funding. The district is facing a $4.5 million budget deficit.
Other districts in the area have voted to close and consolidate schools, including Richardson, Plano and Coppell. In October, Coppell closed Pinkerton Elementary School, its oldest elementary school.
