A Dallas dermatologist is being sued by the federal government for failing to pay fines in connection with a kickback scheme.
In a federal court complaint, the government says 64-year old Dr. Clay Cockrell owes $4.2-million for unnecessary tests billed to the federal Tricare program.
Cockrell is the owner of Cockrell Dematopathology, a medical business that uses microscopic analysis to to treat skin disorders.
The complaint says Cockrell allowed another company to use his Lab license for tests that were expensive and unnecessary. The suit says Cockrell got a 20% kickback for doing so. The other company, called Progen, later was caught and Cockrell said his business would repay that 20 percent to the government, but never did.
