Fort Worth is moving forward in its search for a new police chief, following the resignation of Chief Neil Noakes in May.
The city has narrowed the field to five finalists, including Interim Chief Robert Alldredge, former Dallas Deputy Chief Vernon Hale III, former Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia, and LAPD Deputy Chief Emada Tingirides.
A fifth candidate has not yet been publicly identified.
The selection process, managed by a professional search firm, began with 51 applicants from 15 states—nearly half of whom identified as Black or Hispanic.
City leaders, including Mayor Mattie Parker, say the next chief must build on progress in race relations, transparency, and accountability.
Fort Worth has faced increased scrutiny in recent years over police conduct, and community input has been central to the process through surveys and public forums.
Officials hope to make a final decision by late August, with the new chief expected to take office in September.
The department’s next leader will be tasked with maintaining Fort Worth’s downward trend in violent crime while managing rapid population growth and strengthening trust between law enforcement and the community.
