Crews were called to Fair Park around 7:08am where a large column of smoke was coming from a gaming stand.
"They [crews] were able to quickly extinguish the fire, declaring an “out taps” at 7:26, but the stand, which was identified as a “balloon pop” game, sustained significant damage," DFR officials said.
Since the fire happened before the Fair opened, no gaming stands were open for business and no injuries have been reported. While the fire is out, firefighters are still putting out hot spots located within several stuffed animals and other prizes.
"It seems to have been isolated to a couple booths near the greenhouse," Karissa Condoianis, senior vice president of public relations for the State Fair of Texas said. "It will not impact fair operations today... thankfully nobody was hurt during this, that's the most important thing."
Condoianis said operations will continue as planned, but said that area of The Midway near the greenhouse will be blocked off while crews and fair officials investigate and assess the damage.
