A firefighter was hurt in the response to an apartment complex in Dallas Tuesday night. Dallas Fire Rescue says someone called 911 to report the fire at 9:39 p.m.

Crews responded to the complex on Melody Lane, east of the Loop 12/Highway 75 interchange and saw "heavy fire on the third floor and through the roof." They called a second alarm, bringing up to 50 firefighters to the scene.

The building is three stories with a total of eight apartments inside. Dallas Fire Rescue says all the tenants escaped safely, but a firefighter was taken to the hospital.

Dallas Fire Rescue says the firefighter had a back injury, but his injury is not life-threatening, and he is expected to recover.

Wednesday morning, investigators were still confirming the cause of the fire and tallying damage.
