The first drowning victim at Joe Pool Lake for 2023 has been reported by the Grand Prairie Fire Department.

Officials say a 22-year-old male was reported missing Thursday afternoon at Joe Pool Lake. He was last seen around 5:00 p.m. near lake location marker LC11. Witnesses say the man was not wearing a lifejacket and did not resurface after he went under.

The Public Safety Dive Team conducted a search and recovered the body.

The identity of the deceased man will be released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office. This is the first drowning at Joe Pool Lake for 2023.

Grand Prairie officials encourage the public to wear a life vest or an appropriate personal flotation device while near or in the water.
