First human case of West Nile confirmed in Tarrant County

Tarrant County's first human case of West Nile Virus infection has been confirmed by the county's Department of Public Health.

Local health officials says the patient lives in the northwest part of the county.

The department has reported seven cases of West Nile mosquito pools so far this season.

In April, Dallas County reported its first human case of WNV. State-wide 14 people reportedly died from a West Nile infection last year.

Over the past five years the total number of West Nile related deaths in North Texas is 61.
