It’s never too early to start thinking about mosquito season around these parts, and with all the rain we’ve been getting the last month-and-a-half you can bet those little buggers will be out and ready to bite.
Unfortunately, now those bites can turn serious.
According to NBC DFW, the first mosquito sample this year that contains West Nile Virus has been reported in Tarrant County. Thankfully, no human cases have been reported yet.
This sample was obtained in Euless, and “falls in line with the typical West Nile Virus season,” which typically runs from April through mid-November.
So far, city officials have tested 369 mosquito samples this year.
Some helpful tips in order to better protect you from mosquito bites include:
Dress in long sleeves, pants when outside: For extra protection, spray thin clothing with repellent.
DEET: Make sure this ingredient is in your insect repellent.
Drain standing water in your yard and neighborhood: Mosquitoes can develop in any water stagnant for more than three days.
