TARRANT COUNTY (1080 KRLD)- A former officer with the Arlington Police Department has been indicted by a Tarrant County grand jury in connection with a fatal shooting last year. Former officer Robert Phillips is charged with murder.

Phillips shot and killed 40-year-old Jesse Fischer of Addison after a short chase in October of 2021. Officers had encountered Fischer in his car on Pioneer Parkway. The car was stopped in the middle of the road and Fischer was slumped over in the front seat. When officers made contact, Fischer drove off. The pursuit ended in a cul-de-sac in a neighborhood. Officer Phillips told investigators that Fischer drove at him and that's why he opened fire.

Arlington's Police Chief fired Phillips a few days after the incident. He said Phillips violated APD policy when he got out of his vehicle and should not have used deadly force.

A Tarrant County grand jury just indicted Phillips on a murder charge. He could face up to life in prison if he is convicted.
