Former Fort Worth Whataburger employee files formal complaint, a month after being fired for wearing BLM mask

FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD)- A former employee at a Fort Worth Whataburger is now filing a formal complaint -- a month after she was fired when a customer complained about her Black Lives Matter mask.

Ma’Kiya Congious announced yesterday that she has filed a discrimination complaint against Whataburger more than a month after the mask incident which did not make sense to her from the beginning.

Her attorney says the Texas Workforce Commission Civil Rights Division has six months to investigate the case -- and Whataburger has 30 days to respond. Attorney Jason Smith says they might not need to file a lawsuit if the company would just apologize and acknowledge it can do better.
