A former Mesquite ISD coach was arrested this week and charged with child grooming, a third-degree felony.
Police in Balch Springs say they were notified by officials with the Mesquite ISD that there was a possible inappropriate relationship between a middle school educator and a student. Their investigation resulted in the arrest of Sergio Gonzalez on Wednesday. He was a coach and teacher at A.C. New Middle School, which is part of the Mesquite ISD but in Balch Spring city limits.
School district officials say Gonzalez was placed on administrative leave and that he has since resigned.
