A former evidence clerk for two North Texas police departments has begun a 30-day jail sentence after pleading guilty to stealing firearms while on the job.
Carl Edmison reported Monday to the Lew Sterrett Justice Center in Dallas, where he will serve his sentence. Under a plea deal, he will also serve three years of probation and is barred from working for any government agency again.
Court records showed Edmison previously managed the evidence room at the DeSoto Police Department before taking the same position with the Midlothian Police Department in 2022.
He was caught after a confidential informant told DeSoto police in April 2024 that Edmison had been stealing items — including firearms, tools, cameras and jewelry — for years and giving them away as gifts.
Investigators later searched his home and found 18 guns in his bedroom, 13 of which were traced to DeSoto’s property room, authorities said.
