A former Southwest Airlines worker has been indicted for cheating the company in a fraud scheme.

Federal prosecutors say the one-time Southwest customer service rep named DaJuan Martin is up on a dozen federal counts of wire fraud when he worked for the airline in Chicago.

He's accused of dummying up travel 'Luv' vouchers under bogus names and then selling them to an accomplice below face value. The man accused of buying the vouchers, identified as Ned Brooks, is charged on four counts of wire fraud.

The US attorney for Northern Illinois says the scheme was worth an estimated $1.8 million. Redeemable for air travel, these vouchers are generally used by airlines to compensate customers for unpleasant experiences.

The indictment was announced by Morris Pasqual, Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Robert W. “Wes” Wheeler, Jr., Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Field Office of the FBI. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elly M. Peirson.
