At one time he was a star under the Friday night lights, now a former West Texas football standout is headed to prison for killing a DeSoto man during a carjacking.
Evan McMaryion was a wide receiver for Midland's Lee High School. But two years ago he hit bottom, murdering 34-year-old Randall 'Scott' Thornhill in DeSoto in front of a child during a carjacking.
Now McMaryion has pleaded guilty in Dallas County court, getting a 40-year prison term.
This is not McMaryion's first time being in trouble with the law. He was arrested in Titus County on charges of Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
He was also arrested in October and December 2020 by DeSoto Police. In DeSoto he was arrested for assault by threatening violence; evading arrest detention; and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
