This afternoon, more than 50 volunteers will meet up at both campuses of the Fort Worth Animal Shelter to prepare Thanksgiving dinner for the more than 750 pets there waiting to be adopted.

The shelter relies on donations to put on this Thanksgiving feast, and the community once again came through in a big way.

"Some of them are volunteers. Some of them are fosters. Some are just citizens from the city of Fort Worth, and we've even had people donate from out of state," says Melanie Pena, the shelter's volunteer coordinator. "We've had boxes upon boxes sent out to the shelter."

Along with turkey and chicken, the dogs will get all the traditional side dishes, including green beans, sweet potatoes and pumpkin.

The cats will also be in for a special feast.

"The cats will be getting some delicious canned food," says Pena, "and they will also be getting cat treats as well."

This is the third year that the Fort Worth Animal Shelter will treat its pets to a Thanksgiving feast.
