In a bid to encourage the adoptions of their cats and dogs, the Fort Worth Animal Shelter will be hosting a 'Date Night' this weekend.

The event will take place from 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. at 351 Hillshire Drive and will feature pups walking down an 80-foot red carpet to allow the public to get up close and personal with these four-legged friends.

The shelter says that this free event will also feature other fun activities, and that; "All pets available for adoption have been vaccinated, spayed/neutered and have received medical examinations."

At this time, the shelter say they have 800 pets in their care and have been at capacity for a few weeks.

"Our shelter is faced with a huge challenge — too many animals coming in and not enough finding their way to the homes they deserve," Dr. Tim Morton, Code Compliance assistant director with oversight of Fort Worth Animal Services said via the shelter's site.

"The effects of the recent closure of intakes at the Humane Society of North Texas has been unprecedented, but we’ve had great support from our rescue group partners and foster families. We’re hoping this adoption event will provide some much-needed relief."
