The money came from Community Park Fees, 2018 parkland bond funds and Open Space funds.

The sale closed earlier this week, and Councilman Jared Williams, whose district includes the just-purchased land, says it will become a park that the city can be proud of.

"It's the largest open space and park in the city of Fort Worth," says Councilman Williams, "and it's also the largest acquisition through the Open Space Conservation Program."

Rock Creek Ranch Park will be located next to the Rocky Creek Ranch Development near Benbrook Lake.

"There'll be nature trails, there also be some traditional park amenities there, but mostly it'll be an area of largely for conservation efforts," says Williams. "Some activities that have been thrown around both from the community for staff (include) hiking, birding, educational opportunities -- mostly outdoor education learning opportunities."

Williams says it's too early at this time to tell when the park will open.

"I'm excited for our residents to be able to have another park, and even more importantly nature trails, to really enjoy and find a connection with our Fort Worth prairie," Williams says.
