The Fort Worth City Council heard a presentation this week on a proposed street maintenance fee to fix its roads.

Fort Worth Assistant City Manager Jesica McEachern says the initial plan is to charge $9.22 per single-family home and $5.65 per multi-family unit.

Businesses would pay per thousand square feet, $9.08 for offices, $12.06 for retail, and $15.80 for dining.

Many on the council expressed concerns over imposing additional fees, including Elizabeth Beck, who says any fee schedule needs to be as simple as possible.

This is not a new concept. Currently, 12 cities across the state impose similar fees.
