Fort Worth has banned drinking outside in the West 7th street entertainment district.

On Tuesday the Fort Worth city council was unanimous in voting to ban open containers in West 7th.

The issue came up because businesses and residents were worried about a 15% increase in the crime rate and an 8% increase in underage drinking from the beginning of the year.

Fort Worth police believe this ban will be an effective tool to use for preventing crime.
