On Tuesday, the Fort Worth City Council agreed on a single map to submit to the city's Redistricting Task Force; and on Wednesday, it did just that.

In 2023, thanks to Fort Worth voters, the number of districts in the city will go up from eight to 10.

Under the proposed redrawn map, no two current council members would be consolidated into a single district, meaning none of them will have to face one another in 2023.

The two new districts -- the ones that do not have a current council member living in them -- encompass areas northeast of downtown within the 820 corridor and in the northwest portion of the city, north of Saginaw and west of 156.

The actions taken by the council over the last two days are by no means the final ones in the redistricting process.

On December 8, the task force will conduct a public hearing on the maps proposed by the council and others; and two days later, it will select a map to submit to council for consideration.

The task force will present its map to the council during its work session on January 4th, 2022.

On January 11th and 18th, the council will consider changes to the task force's map and will propose its own map.

Following four public hearings in early February, the council will conduct a special work session to produce a final map on February 18th, which will be officially adopted on February 22nd.
