Now that COVID-19 vaccines are available for kids as young as five, the City of Fort Worth and the Fort Worth ISD are teaming up to expand the hours at their drive-through vaccination clinic at the Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center.

"We'll start (offering the pediatric shots) at 3:30 in the afternoon, and we'll be going until 7:30 Tuesdays (and) Thursdays, up until Thanksgiving," says Cody Whittenburg, assistant code compliance director for the City of Fort Worth.

The Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center is located at 5201 C.A. Roberson Blvd. in Fort Worth.

The drive-through clinic there is already open starting at 9:00 a.m. every weekday for adults needing either their initial vaccine or their booster shot.

The later hours are in place to accommodate kids' school schedules.

Whittenburg says the clinic is open to everyone, with or without insurance; and all they need to do is to simply show up.

"There is no appointment necessary," says Whittenburg. "We are using a digital system, and our goal is to make it as easy and as good of an experience as we possibly can."

Even though the dose is one-third of that of the adult dose, the pediatric vaccine is still a two-dose process, with the second shot coming 21 days later.

"The second dose can be given at any location," says Whittenburg, "and we anticipate additional options through our clinic as well to administer that second dose 21 days after the first dose."
