Fort Worth firefighters dives out a window to escape flames from burning home

A Fort Worth firefighter is okay after a narrow escape from a flaming home.

Working a fire at a home in southwest Fort Worth on Shiloh Road near West Vickery, firefighters were inside when, as commanders describe it, "the room suddenly flashed" and Fire Captain Brian Alexander barely escaped by diving head-first through a window onto the front porch.

Seeing his comrade's danger, Fire Captain Larry Young grabbed a hose and started pouring water on the flames chasing Alexander out the window.

Commanders say Alexander was not hurt and immediately went back to work with his crew to get the fire under control within about a half-hour.

This was going on while temperatures in that part of Fort Worth were in the low-to-mid teens meaning the water run-off was freezing into sheets of ice beneath firefighters' feet.

Despite the ferocity of the fire and icy footing, no firefighters were hurt.
