FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD)- The Fort Worth ISD will re-impose its mask mandate starting Monday, September 13th.
Students, teachers and other employees will be required to wear face masks in Fort Worth ISD buildings to help limit the spread of COVID-19. The rule will not apply to those with a medical exemption. Wearing masks during outdoor activities will not be required.
The Fort Worth ISD Board of Trustees had voted to support the mask mandate in August, but several parents filed a lawsuit challenging that decision. A court had issued an injunction against the district. The school district appealed, and officials say the Second Court of Appeals in Fort Worth has blocked that injunction, allowing the mask mandate to return. A different court in Austin had also blocked Governor Abbott from enforcing his ban on school districts adopting their own mask policies.
Starting on Monday, the Fort Worth ISD will use the same indoor mask policy that staff and students followed during the 2020-21 school year. The Superintendent will also review the policy at least once per month and make on recommendation to the school board.
