Kids in the Fort Worth ISD wanting to visit their school library will have to wait until a week from Monday to do so.

"Every campus library will be closed through August 25th so that our catalogs can be inventoried," Fort Worth ISD spokesman John Cope said.

Cope said the closure was pre-planned so that schools could prepare their libraries in advance of a new law taking effect Sept. 1st.

"We were just preparing for HB 900 going into effect to make sure that our school libraries are ready for the impact of that law," he said.

Among other things, House Bill 900 bans books that are deemed to be sexually explicit.

It also forces booksellers to rate their books on sexual content.

"We just want to be proactive," Cope said, "Any books that we need to transfer from the campus libraries to district professional library for further review, that process will take place during those times."

The district had previously pulled three books with LGBTQ and gender themes.
