Students who attend school in the Fort Worth ISD will have longer school days next year.
The Fort Worth ISD Board of Trustees approved the calendar for the 2022-23 academic year. And in order to focus on accelerated learning in light of House Bill 4545, the school days will be 15 minutes longer.
FWISD Deputy Superintendent Karen Molinar says the extra time will be tacked on at the end of the day for elementary schools, at the beginning of the day for middle schools, and a little of both for high schools.
That was one of two plans the district presented to the board, with the other being simply adding days of instruction which would eat into teachers' flex days. The additional 15-minute plan was favored by stakeholders four-to-one.
