FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD)- A Fort Worth man is going to prison for decades for the murder of his own mother.
Matthew Russell was sentenced in Weatherford where a Parker County jury convicted him in the 2021 murder of his mom, Rebecca Russel, a teacher at Saginaw High School.
Prosecutors said he ambushed his mother as soon as she arrived home from school. He was also convicted of shooting his cousin who was in the home and tried to call for help when he realized what was happening. Darrell Caffey was wounded but recovered.
Russell was sentenced to 50 years for the murder, 20 years for the attempted murder and ten years for evading arrest after the shooting. But he'll serve the terms concurrently so he could be eligible for parole after 25 years.
