The Fort Worth City Council may be lawyering up after a survey error boosted the price tag for its new City Hall.
The City of Fort Worth purchased the former Pier One building for $70 million in 2021 to convert it into its new City Hall.
The plans call for building a new council chamber and parking facility onto the building. But the city says a pre-purchase survey failed to accurately describe a federal floodway easement.
As a result, the city has to secure a 408 permit from the US Army Corps of Engineers to make changes to the floodway, which will add almost $8 million to the cost of repurposing the former Pier One corporate headquarters.
The Fort worth City Council will vote Tuesday on hiring a law firm to represent it as it tries to recoup the added expense resulting from the survey error.
