Fort Worth Police Chief Eddie Garcia says not to judge the safety of the city based on one weekend.

This comes after a very violent weekend across the entire Metroplex that saw one person killed and several others shot at a night club in the West 7th District in Fort Worth late Saturday night.

"What often times gets forgotten is the overall crime stats in the city," Chief Garcia said. "Violent crime continues to go down. Yes, we have had an uptick in murder this year, but our violent crime continues to go down."

Garcia says while they work to make arrests, they are also checking with bars in the area to make sure they are operating in a safe manner.

"We are going to be looking at our bars and our bar owners to ensure that they are operating responsibly," Garcia said. "To ensure that they are following and abiding by the laws and regulations of the City of Fort Worth and the State of Texas."

It is believed the shooting, which was unprovoked, was gang-related.
