Fort Worth Police are working to reduce gun violence in the city by offering free gun locks to the public.
The gun locks are being offered through a partnership with Project Child Safe, a nationwide firearms safety education program. They are currently available at all FWPD patrol division sectors.
Assistant Fort Worth Police Chief Robert Alldredge says obtaining a free gun lock is easy.
"If anyone needs a free gun lock, they can stop by any police patrol headquarters and ask for one" said Chief Alldredge.
Mayor Mattie Parker says far too often, kids gain access to loaded guns, often with tragic results.
"For our police officers its especially troubling to arrive on-scene and to see a deceased member of the community, especially if it is someone young" said Parker.
