A Fort Worth police veteran, a Mounted Patrol horse named Cowboy, has now gone into retirement after seven years of service.

Because of an eye injury, Cowboy was officially retired at the end of June and will now serve as a therapy horse for Wings of Hope Equitherapy in Cleburne. He will provide therapy for children and adults with unique physical, mental and emotional challenges.

As part of his retirement celebration, Cowboy was walked by his police officer partner into the Wings of Hope arena where he was ceremonially relieved of his saddle and harness and was permitted to walk unencumbered into his new life.
