Chaplains will not be allowed to act as counselors at Fort Worth schools thanks to a unanimous vote by the school board.

The Fort Worth school board met until early Wednesday morning before voting not to allow unlicensed religious chaplains at schools.

The board heard from parents and religious leaders before taking the vote.

The vote is required by law after the state passed a new law allowing chaplains to work or volunteer in public schools as counselors.

Board member Anne Darr says mental health services are not that easy to replace.

School districts across Texas have the option to opt-out of the law, but districts must vote on the matter before March 1 of next year.
