Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Dr. Angelica Ramsey wrote in a statement posted to the district's website that due to declining enrollment and a reduction in federal funding, the district needs to make cuts in budgets and staff. This is on top of the $1.6 million in budget cuts last year.
The Fort Worth board of education will hold a special meetng Tuesday night, Febryary 13th at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the cuts.
“It is with a heavy heart that we make these decisions, and we are doing so as early as possible to provide ample time for affected employees to explore alternative opportunities,” Ramsey said.
Dr. Ramsey notes that more than eighty percent of the district's budget is tied to salaries.
Ramsey says the plan is to notify affected employees by the end of the week, and they will have the opportunity to apply for other positions within the district.
“Student outcomes must remain our top priority, and we appreciate your understanding and support as we navigate these challenging times together,” Ramsey said.
