Fort Worth Animal Care and Control is pausing adoptions at its Silcox Animal Care and Adoption Center because of an outbreak of dog flu.

The Center is also not accepting strays or owner surrenders until this passes.

Staff say at least 90% of the dogs there have been exposed to the Canine Influenza Virus and many are showing symptoms.

Other private and municipal shelters across Dallas-Fort Worth have taken similar measures because they, too, are seeing a lot of dog flu.

Veterinarians agree that Canine Influenza is not as deadly as Canine Distemper, an illness Silcox has also battled in the last month or two.
