A thunderstorm in Tarrant County produced hail and high winds that injured 14 people Sunday night. The Cresson Volunteer Fire Department was called to Mustang Park, near Lake Benbrook about 6:30 pm.

The fire department says 14 people had gathered under a canopy at the park when the storm started. The fire department says high winds started blowing the canopy out of place, and when people started trying to hold the tent in place, lightning struck the canopy, a nearby tree and a car.

The Cresson Volunteer Fire Department says all 14 were injured and checked out at the scene. Twelve were treated there. Paramedics evaluated them and released them to go home.

The other two were taken to the hospital, but the fire department says they were transported as a precaution and are expected to be okay.

In southern Tarrant County, hail the size of half dollars, eggs and apples was reported Sunday night.
