Frisco EMS workers get COVID-19 vaccines

FRISCO (1080 KRLD) - EMS workers in Frisco are rolling up their sleeves today to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Frisco Fire Department received a shipment of 300 vaccines from Moderna. As of this morning, dozens of frontline workers had been vaccinated. Frisco Fire's EMS Battalion Chief Jake Owen was one of them.

"This is exciting," Owen says. "As far as the injection, it's virtually painless. It's no different than a flu shot or any other vaccine I've seen."

Owen says at this point, department officials have not been told whether or not more vaccines will come in the future … but he hopes they do.

"This is a really exciting thing," Owen said. "This vaccine is a medical marvel … and we're really excited that we'll be able to protect our employees and give them the opportunity to get this."
