A crew of Frisco firefighters is in East Texas this week, where power has been out for 100,000 electricity customers since Thursday night when a cascade of storms rocked the region from Dallas to Shreveport.
An EF-1 tornado measuring a half-mile wide caused heavy damage in Panola County. The National Weather Service said the twister had winds of 110 mph along a path measuring nearly eight miles.
In Franklin County, the town of Mount Vernon is largely in the dark with no air conditioning as this week's sweltering heat descends on Texas. The Texas Division of Emergency Management is rushing help and supplies to the region.
Frisco firefighters were asked to assist and left town with a fully air-conditioned AmBus -- and ambulance bus -- to help with relocating nursing home residents or other patients to find them cooler shelter.
