A group of thieves that target women of Indian descent are back in Frisco.

The crooks are after an expensive Hindu necklace that the women wear. They see a woman who is wearing the jewelry, start a conversation, and leave. Officer Brad Cottingham says they have seen similar robberies at least twice before.

"It's similar, but in trying to determine whether or not this might be the same group as we've seen in the past," Officer Cottingham says. "That's where the MO differs."

In November of 2022 and again in April of last year, the thieves targeted someone of Indian descent because they wore something called a mangalsutra, an expensive Hindu necklace.

Often the thieves ask directions, then act as though they are so thankful, they give a cheap piece of jewelry. As the thief puts the junk jewelry on, they slip the expensive jewelry off and are gone before anyone knows better.
